If you’re thinking about a relaxing beach holiday you are probably not thinking about Hungary.
But in fact, though Hungary is a completely landlocked country, it is also home to lake Balaton. At 600 square kilometres, lake Balaton is the largest lake in central Europe. So large that it is often referred to as “The Hungarian sea”. And yes, there are beaches. If you’re looking for some culture and history, you’ll find that Hungary is also a very smart choice. A succession of “visitors”, such as; Celts, Romans, Germanic tribes, Huns, West Slavs and Avars, amongst others, have left behind a veritable treasure trove of magnificent architecture and cultural influences across the country.

Thanks to an abundance of natural hot springs, Hungary can boast around 450 public spas and bathhouses. The capital is Budapest, truly a city of wonder and enchantment, bisected as it is by the powerful Danube river. In Budapest you’ll find incredible sights such as the Chain Bridge, Buda Castle, the massive Hungarian parliament building., there’s so much to see in Budapest that in 2019 it was voted European Best Destination.
